Art Portraiture - Alicia

One of my favorite things to do and the direction my business is heading is fine art portraiture. The cool thing about fine art portraiture (besides the obvious- the end product is a piece of art of yourself) is that there is so much input from the subject- I really want to capture your personality, your style, your aesthetic, and to that I add my vision. It requires an investment- portrait painters require sittings and meetings to discuss the final portrait, and photographic portrait artists require your time, as well. We'll discuss wardrobe, location, make-up and hair. After the shoot, I will choose the best pieces and will work with them in post production. Then there is more discussion- what type of printing processes, sizes, and framing will be best suited for your art pieces?
And the end result? Something spectacular that you'll be excited to display!

The difficult part of this is finding customers who share my vision in portraiture. But now we're getting started! One of my first fine art portrait sessions was Alicia, and wow- we had a blast! It was a little bit chilly, but Alicia was a trooper. And I think she'll agree with me it was worth it!

Introducing Princess Ana Gray :)

Only about 2 weeks fashionably late, my baby girl finally arrived on October 9, 2009 :)

Ana Gray Elette Osborne was born at 10:15 AM weighing 8 pounds, 7.7 ounces and was 19.75 inches long. She's the most gorgeous baby, and she's going to be mommy's favorite little model ever, I can already tell :D

On a business note, at this point my plan is to go back to work in January. I'll still be working on changes in the same direction I was heading in.
But no rushing it! I'm going to enjoy the holidays with my Ana Gray!

Gallery + Impending Baby = MY LIFE :D

Well, the title about sums it up. :) My gallery show on Friday went smashingly! Aaaaand of course I have a few pics. My great friend, Rosemary, has more, but being a photographer herself, she's busybusybusy!

My husband, Chris, and myself- crazy pregnant and about to burst into laughter. :)

And the walls with the pics! (Taken on my iPhone, so the quality could be better... but who cares? So exciting!)

The second part of that equation, the impending baby, is definitely the bigger deal... although I can't tell you how proud I am of myself to have been able to pull off the gallery at 9 months pregnant! That will be a story to tell baby girl in the future, for sure!

And when is baby girl coming? Well, any time now! And since that's definitely the truth (she's due on the 28th) I'm officially on maternity leave until at least January. Since this is my first rodeo as a mommy, I'll be making the decision when to go back to work once she's here and I feel like I have a better grasp on the way our lives are going to go. So I'll start accepting portrait sessions and modeling port work sometime in November scheduling for, more than likely, January.
There have been a lot of changes in the past year with my business, with the introduction of a boutique portrait focus as well as boudoir parties, and I'm excited to move along in the same vein into the future!

And as always, be sure to contact me with any questions you may have!!!

One Part Love, One Part Wild, One Part Lady, One Part Child

I really hope you're all Def Leppard fans :D If so, you'll recognize the title.
But it definitely fits all the amazing models I've been shooting in the past couple months!

JORDAN

LISA

CHAISLEY

Senior model CAITLIN (These are from TODAY! Caitlin is my model for the direction my senior portraits will be going. Look for info on the Senior Portrait Experience coming in the next year!)

Aaaand that is not all of my awesome models I've shot in the past few months. It is, however, all of the ones I could find based on my calendar (which likes to erase itself ever so often...)

So THAT is where you've been!

I thought I would make the title sound sensationalistic, because the truth is never quite so crazy. *LOL*

May 13- The BIG U/S! After months of being CONVINCED I was having a boy, we found out we're having a baby GIRL! (Imagine a big shocked expression here!) But we're definitely excited! Isn't she pretty as can be? Okay, I know all babies look alike on the ultrasound. But humor me here- she's got a perfect little profile!

May 23, 2009 my little sister, Joy, got married to a super awesome guy! I've always wanted a brother, and Travis is a great one :D

(Pic courtesy of my wonderful friend Kim Stone of Kim Stone Photography... if you've made the awesome choice of a destination wedding on the Gulf Coast of Florida, she's your lady!)

Since then, I spent a few weeks in Florida with my family doing the fun baby stuff (shopping, shower, etc), and I've shot some amazing models and been working on some great projects! Some of those pics will be coming up in the next post.

And THAT is where I've been! :D

I'm Baaaa-aaack!

I hate starting off posts by apologizing... but when it's been two months, well, I see no other options! I'm a terrible blogger- good bloggers actually make blogging a priority, and I am a terrible, horrible, no-good, very-bad blogger!

And as you may or may not know, this phrase might make sense for my blogging habits, but it's originally from one of my favorite children's books. This has come up between my husband (who has never heard of the book, weirdo) and I because, as many of you already know, we are very soon going to have a ton of children's books taking over... and children's clothes... and children's, well, EVERYTHING, because sometime around the end of September/ beginning of October, we are expecting a baby of our very own :D Yes, it's a HUGE surprise, but we're pretty excited.

Scrambling to make things work for my fall brides has been a nightmare, and I want to apologize again to each and every one of you! The nightmare has not been you wonderful, awesome, supportive ladies- the nightmare has much more been my own guilt and sadness that I will not be able to enjoy your special days with you. My hope for each of you is that you will have the most beautiful, romantic days possible!

The upside to having a very mono-like first trimester is that I did not plan a lot of portrait sessions, etc, so now I'm doing a lot of focusing on my art. This has been fun! It's always been a goal of mine to really establish myself as an artist. I guess it's the Renaissance Lady in me- when I'm hired to create portraits of my clients, I see it as just that- a work of creation, a work of art. Instead of a paintbrush, I have a camera and a digital darkroom.
Anyhow, I say all that to say this: I love creating art, and I've really enjoyed creating more 'Gallery' pieces lately.

So since this whole ramble is worthless without pictures, here is my latest piece of art, created with the likeness of the gorgeous Tamara.

Ch-Ch-Cha-Changes! :)

It’s obvious- being young, I’m still fairly new at this compared with my counterparts in the industry who have been successfully at it for years…the charm of that being fresh ideas and fresh approaches on how to artistically photograph people- my vision, in other words.
And as time goes by, that vision has become more and more clear. That sounds strange, because I realize at this point, it’s a little confusing what type of photographer I am. I’m an aspiring fashion/editorial photographer, but I am also a portrait artist. My client isn’t the same person who would be happy with staged pictures from the Sears studio- my client is the one who wants an art piece of herself. So while I shoot a lot of models, I don’t think I’ve made it clear that my vision is to build a business where all of my clients view their proofs thinking, “This could be in a magazine! *I* could be in a magazine!”
I’m always telling people that I shoot a lot of beautiful women. And I don’t just say that because I shoot models. I also shoot mothers and brides and children- ‘everyday’ people.
I’ve always said that I want to show you the beautiful that I see… that has never changed. As I move forward, I see myself doing more fashion/editorial work, of course, and more specialized portraiture such as Boudoir and Unbridaled sessions. Right now, I’m still happy in accepting a few weddings every year and as long as I am, I’ll continue to shoot a few weddings every year. (I don’t foresee that changing for a long, long time ;)
But I have realized it is time for a change- time to market myself and my work for who I am and what I do. So you will be seeing some changes in my literature and branding, etc. And I would love feedback! I would love to hear what you like and what you don’t like! No comment is too small, and I value all opinions! So go for it! Shoot me an email and tell me what you like/dislike about the current KBOPhotography, and we’ll all grow together.

And because I don’t say it enough, A HUGE THANK YOU to all of my blog/website viewers and my clients! YOU ROCK!

What I did while I was technically 'off'

So, I took the holidays off... and of course that means that I had 2 photoshoots while I was in Florida. ;)

First I had the opportunity to do another photoshoot with Cali and Nourah- the gorgeous baby girls of Ame, a family friend I've known so long, she might as well be my cousin. And this time, Ame got in on the fun!

And then I got to take a few engagement portraits for my sister and her fiance, Travis. Remember how I said she was getting married and I was super excited? Still super excited :) :)
We only shot for a very few minutes, though, since it was the one strange day in Florida that the temperatures were FREEZING, and then with the rush of the holidays, we didn't get a chance to shoot again.
But I adore the outcome, anyway. :) And we'll shoot some more next time I'm down.

And my absolute FAVORITE! (It's just so THEM):

And that's all for now, y'all :) I promised more pics of Greta, and those will be coming... in the meantime, I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year!!
